Patch Notes - 23.06.2011 - 1.2.0

Hi guys! I'm afraid this patch will maybe* be the last one. I will probably make a patch once in a month or so, but it is not sure at all. Enjoy while it lasts!
*If we make new patches, they will be about some *BIG* changes, not some new Addon Reviews

Important
  • Changed the old background (Cataclysm) into this new one
  • Changed the model of the blog
  • Added a "Featured Content Slidebar"
  • Deleted "Featured Content Slidebar" <- For several reasons. It will be back soon.
  • (Added "Featured Content Slidebar") <- Not yet, but I don't want to waste a patch note just for that.
Widgets
  • Changed the position of several widgets, such as advertisements.
  • "Featured Content Slidebar" -> See above
Others
  • New Addon Reviews*
  • Minor Fixes
*These won't always be put in patches

TheWoWcrafters - Comeback

As some of you might have noticed, I, the (currently) only The World of Warcrafters writer, haven't been so active for the past (around) 30 days. The reason for this is quite simple: My internet connection crashed. Do not worry, it is fixed now, and to celebrate that, I am creating my first "Comeback Event".

This event will contain links several new addon reviews (that I have posted already before this one), some changes to the widgets, an update to Molten-WoW's Jun 4, 2011 changelog (it is now working and running on all realms), and last but not least a funny "Kitty Cat Dance" YouTube video (It is not created and/or owned by me):

Kitty Cat Dance

Go HERE for more information.

Addon Reviews - Zoom!!!

"Not as efficient as it used to be, but definitely worth trying for anyone using a lot of addons"
-The World of Warcrafters

(Click HERE for more information)
To check out the other addon reviews, go here  (here for the complete list).

What does it do?
Zoom!!! makes your UI load faster by preventing garbage collection during the UI load cycle.

In particular, it fixes bad behavior incurred by Rock addons, but it'll benefit you even if you don't run Rock mods, as well.

Caveats:
This won't work if you're on a FAT32 filesystem (Windows 95, Windows ME, badly configured Windows 2000/XP). Also, if you don't run many mods, you likely won't see a huge benefit from this. The more mods you run, the more benefit you should see.

Addon Reviews - Tidy Plates (3.3.5)

"A nice change to the original WoW name plates.

(Click HERE for more information)
To check out the other addon reviews, go here  (here for the complete list).

An un-targeted red* name-plated  mob

A targeted red* name-plated mob

red* -> a mob that will attack you when you enter a specific "aggro radius"

What does it do?
Tidy Plates is perfect for all WoW aspects, including PvP (Battlegrounds, Arenas and World PvP), PvE (Raids, Dungeons, Solo [leveling?]). It not only makes the nameplates (floating health bars) smaller and easier to manage, but also a lot prettier. It also provides a built-in API that can be used to create your completely unique and own design.

It's esthetic side is pretty obvious (I hate those bulky default nameplates), but this AddOns true function is in heavily populated action packed encounters, such as 10-25man Raids and Battlegrounds. It makes targeting that enemy healer in the middle of all those

Plugins:
This AddOn does have quite many plugins, but one MUST HAVE is the Threat Plates one. It shows you different enemies' nameplates with different colors depending on wether they are targeting you or not.

New Event - Looking For New Writers

Even though the The World of Warcrafters has been doing well with only one writer, TheOnlyTrueWriter (also known as TheWoWcrafters), we would like to expand it by either getting new writers (blogger allows this to be done easily enough), or by linking other blogs to this one as "columns" (check the definition here). There is also the option to do both: you, our potential new writer, make a blog, which will be linked on every our blog post made by you :P
What we are looking for:
  • Competent writers who are interested in this blog's main theme, Molten-WoW (or WoW/private servers in general)
  • Already existing blogs whose writers want to increase their traffic (linking the blog back and forth)
  • Competent video makers (for our YouTube channel)
What we would need YOU to do:
  • Write guides about either Molten-WoW, or WoW in general (3.3.5)
  • Write class specific guides
  • Report Molten-WoW bugs, either to us, to the readers through the blog, and/or on the website's "Bug Tracker" page
  • Other
  • ALSO, we are looking for new videos for our YouTube channel. Whether they are humoristic, pvp or pve, we take it (we will first review the video(s) and then decide if it represents us). If you want, we can link it to your channel. The reason why you might want to do this is our large audience that would watch your video(s) through our channel and link them to your's. [They can't have been posted on Youtube]
What YOU get from it:
  • Fame (who doesn't want that?)
  • The right to be part of our community
  • Help our readers with the potential guides you make
  • Gain traffic to your own website/blog through our blog (with links)
  • EARN MONEY! (From Google AdSense {your own blog/website}, Ad.Fly {the links to your own blog/website} and through US! {depending on how much you make content for us}. The "US!" part isn't going to be so big right now though...)

If you are interested:

Please comment!

[WoW] Addon Reviews - GearScoreLite (For 3.3.5)

"Geascore is a some kind of a 'score' that is given
for one's gear.  It is popular amongst PuGs"
-The World of Warcrafters

(Click HERE for more information)
To check out the other addon reviews, go here  (here for the complete list).

"The popular GearScore as a light version"

What does it do?
It is the light version of the popular WoW addon called GearScore (also known as PlayerScore). It gives you a gearscore, or often refered to simply as "gs", of yourself, or any player that you point at with your cursor.

Just mouse-over someone and it will give you his/her gearscore in this frame (blizzard's original frame in my case).

We like:
  • its lightweightness
  • its ease of use
We dislike:
  • the use of gearscore itself (refer to this)
  • its lack of GUI

Review:
GearScore... Great! Some hate it, some love it. Even though there are many sad stories that make me and other players just want the addon gone (as seen here), it does have it's pros as well. For one, it does make it a lot faster and easier to spot the low geared from high geared players, which then again makes it easier overall to organize raids and other events.
It is fairly easy to "trick/cheat/fool" it's system, but if that's the case, it will probably show in the person's dps/healing/tanking capabilities. That is why raids should never be organized solely based on gearscore.

Here is a testimony from a person against gearscore:
Last week, i was able to get into a ICC 10 group for the first time. They were nice and while I was in the middle of raid, I had a tell from someone who wanted me to drop them to join their 25m ICC group.

I stayed with the 10m of course, but felt good that I was finally on my path to FINALLY do larget content. I made adjustments to my gear by removing all my pvp items and replacing it with regular gear, no matter what the gear score. My dps improved dramatically. I was pulling 8-9k on mobs.

I was estatic.

So here I am last night, with the reset, hoping to get into another 10m.

I get this:

"Sorry, your gear sucks".

And here is the kicker.

That person was in the same raid I successfully did last week.

Now my gear score is lower, because previously, I had high level PvP gear on. Because I was told on these forums that gear score really don't matter and I should focus on stats, which I did. i went from 300 haste, to nearly 700. Lower gear score, but higher haste and spell power.

Gear score is sooooo frustrating. I wish they did away with it.

K, I'm done QQing.
Someone pass me a tissue. "
